Sr. Director of Technology – Network Connectivity

Capital One is seeking a Sr. Director of Technology. This role will specifically focus on the transformation of our network connectivity. This individual will provide senior technical leadership in several networking areas of expertise, including software-defined networking (SDN), public cloud environments, advanced routing, switching, and enterprise-scale WiFi.

This individual will develop and execute new initiatives to simplify, standardize, automate, and evolve our network connectivity models. They will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the enterprise to execute on priorities and fulfill technology, security, audit, and regulatory requirements.

This leader must have the ability to attract and recruit the industrys best talent, and simultaneously have the technical chops to ensure that we build compelling, customer oriented solutions in an iterative methodology. Success in the role requires an innovative mind, a proven track record of delivering next generation network solutions with engineering and operational excellence, rigorous analytical skills, and a passion for driving network evolution.

You will:

  • Lead, develop, and motivate a high-performing organization of geographically distributed people leaders and engineers, and set clear priorities to achieve organizational objectives and key results.

  • Actively keep up with and assess relevant industry trends, articulate technology / capability recommendations, and partner with architecture and key stakeholders to establish and drive technical direction.

  • Guide development of network roadmaps to significantly streamline and evolve our connectivity models. Facilitate proof-of-concept evaluations and adoption of new technologies, tools, and carrier services to achieve innovative, secure, resilient, and scalable Software Defined / Infrastructure as Code solutions.

  • Oversee overall scope of network connectivity EngOps initiatives, including strategic / tactical planning, budgeting, implementation, maintenance, administration, staffing and logistics.

  • Ensure on-time delivery with engineering and operational excellence, along with compliance with all standards and best practices.

  • Provide subject matter expertise in engagement with stakeholders and partners. Engage closely with vendors to achieve technical and financial objectives.

  • Provide oversight of and challenge to network requirements, strategy, approaches, automation, processes, and operational sustainability.

  • Drive continuous improvements to risk management practices within accountable scope through automated compliance validation processes, proactive asset lifecycle management, timely remediation of tech debt, and ongoing vulnerability / bug management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • At least 10 years of experience in network engineering

  • At least 8 years of experience managing network or software engineering teams

  • At least 4 years of experience deploying and managing software-defined networks

  • At least 3 years of experience with public cloud environments

  • At least 3 years of experience with Agile, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree

  • 5+ years experience in software engineering

  • 5+ years of experience with Agile, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering

  • 4+ years of experience with AWS
